development of a zelkova

I bet amazing broom zelkovas like that are a dime a dozen for Kimura 😂😂

The only time you need to consider heavier work is on a tree that has been unworked for a few years previously, grown in a big pot etc then it can be better to chop lots off and regrow all the branches from stubs
Yeah, pretty much what I decided to do here:

Many of the trees in the forest had big swollen sections like the one below. I was hoping you would have some insights on timing of big cuts to the trunk to reduce explosive callus / swollen healing sections. I never get my head around what works best there :). Never letting the branches get to thick is a good strategy, but that stage has passed here!

junctions tend to be more finer if allowed to sprout from opposing buds on one shoot- where if two shoots are allowed to grow from one junction, they will cause a knuckle to form.
OK, keeping an eye out. With trees where I go back to the bones, I want to avoid the same problems regrowing!

Carving😜

i guess with your method of growing long extensions and big blobs of cutpaste, in a bid to rapidly heal wounds, explosive callus is inevitable. (and course growth)

i reduced the large reverse taper on my big Zelkova with carving!!

You realize I did not grow these right :)
Trying to restore some poorly managed trees
yeh thats what a restoration project is all about.
sometimes its not enough to just get in there with a pair of knob cutters to concave a large obtrusive knob. sometimes if you want the resulting callus to be inobtrusive then some carving is required, if this makes a person cringe, you would just have to live with the knobs.
