Do multicolored deciduous azaleas need to be pruned like satsuki, or else one color wins?

As many will know, some satsuki varieties need to be pruned to maintain a representative color pattern. I understand that, but I'm wondering if this is true for deciduous azaleas as well? For example, I think Hinomaru (a satsuki) requires some pruning, but there are patterns in some deciduous ones as well I think, yet I havent heard that those need similar maintenance. (To be fair, I never really looked up info on the deciduous)

Not sure. I don't clearly remember stochastic aka somatic variegated deciduous azaleas. Are most not positional? And therefore stable?

Hi no Maru is a bit of a mystery to me. It seems to be a diffusion type mechanism. Not positional. And not somatic either.

I figured there was some opportunity to hybridize for improved pattern stability, easier satsuki maintenance. "Plant and forget about it". (Then possibly come back 15 years later and turn hedge into bonsai, having lost no colors through neglect). Just a thought experiment though. And you wouldnt have the appeal of different flowers on the same tree, just a "uniform multicolor"
