Egg Shell Pots?

I guess I don't understand these type of pots.
Trees don't hatch from eggs so why these weird pots?

Trees dont hatch from rectangular Japenese pots either. Egg Shell pots don't look right on a lot of trees but I think they have a nice organic type look for the right tree. Not a fan Mike?

No not a fan at all. The pot is supposed to represent the earth. Not an animal, nor a tree hatching from an egg. When I see these a I see is that ugly pot thing. I don't even see the tree usually.
I think they are ludicrious. One step away from growing a tree in a hard hat.

I don't have one, but I'd like a few, again, for the right tree. In my mind, these pots frame the tree as if it's growing off the side of a cliff or a rocky outcropping.

I don't have a hard hat but how about a bowler?

They are a tough planter to use but correctly planted they really do look good. I am referring to the "natural" finishes and as Dave pointed out they can suggest rough terrain. Walter Pall has a few that look really good but I honestly do not recall ever seeing one used in an exhibit or show except perhaps a State Fair. I have a few from Dave Lowman (DaSu) and they have remained in storage for a few years now as they present a challenge.

Nacular? Thats a Derby!

They used to be interesting.
When they worked as Dav4 said....

But they don't anymore.

And the correct tree for one is rare as a good windswept. IMO.

A good display......
Two of them.
With a Tanuki in the middle.
And a blue pill on a burl.

That is a good stand for that one too.

I like that pot.

There is just enough going on, it's in proportion with the tree and it's foilage, and even with the high back end, it seems properly "anchored".

That's what it takes to get it right. IMO.

Having a hard time finding egg shell type pots, anyone know of any good online sellers?
Perused posts follwing this question and wondered if anyone had/does actually use(d) an ostrich egg(s) or other large hard shelled egg, and for mames or minis, maybe use a duck or goose egg, to give a fragile sense to the display???

That's wack! Wicky wack!

I did try that in a chicken egg ones but I was so scared I would tap it with somthing or set it down to hard.
