Just wanted to say this thread is amazing!! I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this thread,,just found this by chance today.. and curious, do you still sell some of your materials? Can I get on the waiting list cuz I know you have tons of people wanting to get material like these bad boys!

Had a couple bum crops in a row some career change I do apologize sometimes these things either the seeds bad or I just killed them by accident, but I got a boatload of them outside now small amount of zelkova and mostly Pines cause they actually survive my assault of mistakes.
Working on hugest ever cropof pines
I live in Moskow. Hope there are a lot of carbon in the air)

I love this thread, I’ve learned so much from your threads. Thanks. Did you have much luck with the Co2 bags raising levels? Did lining a traditional bonsai pot with grow bag material work well for root pruning/root control?

It took me some time but I read the whole thread. Amazing work and amazing growth in knowledge and skills.
I like the idea that most "new type" bonsai soils are in theory hydroponics, of you think about pumice, perlite, lava etc. All inert materials are essentially hydroponics. That made me think of an old book I bought a while back.
It's in Dutch.
I dont have the space for an operation like yours, but am looking to implement Rockwool, kelp, fulvic acid into a growing regiment. Our tap water is unchlorinated and without fluor so that's a good setup. Trying to source a dependable and affordable ph and ec meter. Really like the eb and flow system.

THE WINTER CROP OF JAPANESE BLACK PINE SEEDLING CUTTINGS ARE HARDENING OFF!!
Aside from the overdose of DIP & GROW @ 5x strength these are nice.The ones that were allowed to get a bit more mature before cutting all survived! There is about a 90% succes rate of full and radial rooted seedling cuttings.
I will just keep using 5x strength.Just need to make sure they are deep red stems turning a slight yellow at the top of the cutting…NOT HARDENED AND WOODY,BUT NOT GREEN EITHER!!
That tray looks fantastic!
Will probably have around 220 or so of these.
That is just enought to fill the Winter grow house in the larger Grodan Delta 6.5 grow blocks.A nice wide and shallow grow block @4”x4” wide and 2.5” deep,these are wide wnough so I will not overcrowd them in this very extended grow I am doing this Winter……a Good 5 month co2 fertilized grow!
Super fun.
I will also have hundereds of the outdoor seedling grown ones too next season.They are great in the own right! They are growing quite nicely and will really bulk up this month like Japanese Pines always do toward Late Autumn.
** the last two pics are from today as I propped open the trays ever so slighty to start the hardening off process.Like a week and then a bit of monoammonium phosphate for rooting and some mild ammonium type nitrogen***
I will have the Delta 6.5 blocks in a few days.

Either the Grodan grow chunks( very expensive ) or I will run a bunch of unused grow blocks through a 1/2” mesh screen to shred it.
I find moisture holding very important or the tender roots will dry near the rootbase……they will root more when moist at all times in the first stages.
Something like the picture below….except I will be using delta blocks an inch wider….. I will probably say that shredding through the half-inch mesh is a better option. It keeps them tender roots moist the first couple months or you actually will lose some rooting..

the air-pruning is awesome on these Delta blocks!
Here they are a couple seasons ago in only 1.5” mini blocks…….I made a horrible mistake and overcrowded them with too long of a grow session….they shaded out and I lost around 75% of the crop of some of the best I’ve ever grown.
So this year less is more…….large 4” shallow blocks ….all the room they need.They will be very nice seedling cuttings.
They grow pretty awesome. I guess it’s the blue veg light keeping them stocky ,the CO2 with all the photosynthesis and probably the kelp foliar sprays which also stops meristem growth and makes budding laterally.
Now that I think of it though there’s definately some good grow science going on too!
*******Not to mention the 18 hour light cycle
Towards the end of the growth session after a few months when they start putting a terminal bud set on ….then I really am going to turn the light intensity up and crank up the CO2 …..then it’s pretty amazing by that time.

GAVE THE SEEDLING CUTTING THEIR FIRST FERTILIZATION OF SOME MILD NUTRIENT.
About .2 ec of mono ammonium phosphate,potassium,vitamin b magnesium,fulvic acid,kelp,amino acids…..
This is a root starter with fast acting and gentle ammonium nitrogen……and the phospherous boost for a couple weeks…..this will get them ready for regular fertilizing as the lid is propped open slightly and they will acclimate to the ambient humidity.
I just went ahead and soaked them a few minutes as the tray floated.

THE CUTTING HAVE GREENED UP NICELY AND I HAVE THE LIDS RAISED A LITTLE.
Lately I have found it best not to foliar feed these with the kelp until after they are out of the humidity dome and settled very thouroughly….The kelp is very strong on the young cuttings,so dont use till starting to grow after settling.
I do however apply the kelp and fulvic acid to the freshly calloused stems just befor rooting…..even a few times to initiate more roots……this is best done dunking the flat into the rooting stimulater( fulvic acid/kelp).
These will be nice…..but you can’t rush them iut of the propogater after over a month in deep humidity like that……..a good week and then lids off……and then a few days open under the propogation lights then onto more intense light.
You can see the lids of the dome propoed open slightly and then a fan on low blowing around near by over the domes will stir things up a bit.

DECIDED TO USE THE ROOTPOUCH FABRIC POTS THAT I USED TO USE FOR THIS WINTER CROP OF PINE SEEDLING CUTTINGS!!
It is just easier to stick a cutting with a ton of roots into a pot of perlite that into a small planting hole of stonewool.
The roots always did grow quicker in these as far as no trimming needed of roots when planting.That way I can let these settle outside and let the roots grow big and then transplant without any interuption at all.
The aeration in #2 perlite is fantastic also .I have employed this technique before with great results.

Instead of stonewool blocks that have a 1.5” diameter circle to fit a bunch of roots into from a fresh cutting of pine seedling I am going to use thin black Rootpouch instead….in perlite……I can fit all the roots into the Rootpouch sooo much easier

I had cleaned the growhouse today
Looking forward to the increased aeration of the 100 % perlite medium.
The 1qt rootpouches are great…about 4” around.They will be elevated on smart trays….they should be fine.
