Feel pretty good about this bend

Western Juniper I collected May 2024

This tree didn’t skip a beat so I decided to do the initial work.

I was able to bend the main trunk over so I could position the branches(it’s so long growing straight up the first image).

There’s a secondary truck that I worked later as a fail safe, but so far so good since I did the work about a month ago.

Well thought out and executed. Great beginnings. Nice timing for that heavy bending in your climate. Ample time for recovery before it cools down a lot!

Beautiful tree. Nice collect. Be aware bending Junipers during growth can be a death sentence because the bark can slip and if it does sap flow stops beyond the slip. I believe dormancy is the ideal time.

Check out Kimura's work in early Bonsai Today or his _The Magician_ series of books. Pay particular attention to the timing. For a much less authoritative look into things, I started a thread a while back on slipping the bark. My findings differ with your take.

In my area it’s very risky to do major bends on yamadori junipers during the hot season. Major bends wait for winter. Each region has their own idiosyncrasies.
