Fish Stories

Went today to knock the bugs out and get things ready. First tournament is in 3 weeks. First the lake. West Twin in Lewiston Michigan. I won't be leaving this bay today. This time of year the bass are stacked up in here. It's shallow and black bottomed. 20160521_074421.jpg

The equipment and tools. My boat first. It getting a little wore. I bought it new 11 years ago. It's been everywhere.
And a picture of the tackle I'll be using this morning. I will probably be using either the suspending XRap jerkbait in perch color or the tube that's green pumpkin with blue tentacles. But it's a good idea to be prepared so I have other choices available on deck and in the rod locker.20160521_075855.jpg 20160521_075059.jpg

And success! The smallmouth are spawning. Beds as far as the eye can see. The water temp. is 62 degrees and they are locked on and guarding with all of their might. A couple fish that I took pictures of then buckled down and fished. In 4 hours I probably caught 20 to 25 of these this size give or take a pound.
Next week it's off to Hubbard Lake and the land of the Giants to pre fish. I'll need 5 fish with a total weight of 25 pounds to be a contender.
All three of these fish were caught in the time it took to smoke that cigarette. 20160521_083926.jpg 20160521_084352.jpg 20160521_084812.jpg

Awesome, looks perfect..go get Tackle Jaw!
It was awesome and perfect. The bugs in the boat are many though. I'm taking on water. I think it's either the inlet or outlet hose for the livewells. Also the batteries are going need replacing. And it needs new spark plugs. Not big problems, just money and a little work. Boat stands for break out another thousand.

God......

Damn.....

And a

Fuck.....

For good measure!

Spent a few days up at the cabin enjoying some time on the river chasing pike & bass with the fly rod. Quite a bit of action on Saturday with the warmer temps it seems the pike & bass are active early this year. Nothing huge but a good deal of action and some nice fighting size fish to hand always makes for a great day. Gonna be a great summer on the river from the looks of it.

Where is that at?
McKinley or 4001 bridge or Cooke Dam?

Mike the bass & pike pics are right by my cabin at the M65 bridge right below Five Channels dam (my cabin is on Pine Acres Rd if you are familiar with that). The last two pics are by 4001 bridge, did a little trout fishing there Sunday.

I knew I recognized those spots. I meant 5 channels. It dumps into Cooke. That's the spot for smallmouth in the summer on Cooke. We run all the way up from Cooke Dam to there to fish the tail races in tournaments on that pond.

That is awesome Steve!

Thanks Mike. Right about the time I turned 40 I made the decision to tryin get myself healthier so I could stick around and enjoy things a bit longer. So changed the way I eat, started exercising almost daily, and quit smoking. I'm 44 now but I actually feel better these days than I did in my 30's so it's been a good choice so far for me.
