I went to get my potting supplies for this year and discovered my retail store was sold out of akadama and soil king. Something about these products not being allowed into the country.
anyone have any idea why? After years of experimenting with soil mixes, I'm not sure what to do as I was more than happy with a third akadama, pummice and volcanic .....

I am surprised that you did not plan ahead and stock up before now.

Long story short, shipments of akadama were not allowed into the USA because inspectors found organic material in them, maybe roots or branches. I heard about this more then a few months ago- last spring, maybe. Anyway, it's led to a general shortage of akadama and, I guess, mixes containing akadama. For good or for bad, I don't use akadama, so it doesn't affect me. Good luck in your search.
