From seed to bonsai

as you can see these are my 3 containers. The peat pellet container has got 2 of my Jack pine seeds and the Bigger one with the plastic bag also contains 3 of my Jack pine seeds. The glass container with the cotton wool contains 1 apple seed. I am confident it will work , cause I always had success when germinating seeds with this method.

Can I plant the seeds directly into the soil?
Yes. I had good luck with decomposed pine bark. Once they germinated I cut the taproot and moved them into a sand core inside of my standard soil mix as Jonas shows on his blog with his JBPs

Coffee filters are less damaging to new roots than paper towel.

If you remove it at all.

Hello Guys

I bought 3 propagators at our garden centre today. I planted one of my apple seeds that has germinated quite good in the propagator and also my tiny Jack pine seed ( don't know what happened to the other jack pine seeds). How effective is the propagator for seed gemination? hopefully you can give me some insight on microgreens growing trays? I have got coriander and radish on the growing tray. how long does the seeds take to germinate.

I don't find that plastic propagators do much for germinating seeds. Seeds have been germinating and surviving for millions of years without little plastic houses to help. I just sow seeds into pots or trays and maintain moisture.
Different seeds take different amount of time. Time of year and temperature will have big influence too.
Most pine seed I have grown is up in less than 3 weeks but can be 5 or 6 sometimes.
radish seed is usually up in less than a week. Coriander is usually quick but the last batch I planted took 3 or 4 weeks to start (maybe that's because we are heading into winter now and temps are cool? Maybe just old seed that takes longer?)

My Bonsai is thriving , new leaves are coming out in all directions. I found a new interest now , and I really enjoy watching seeds germinate. Got a pepper plant from one of my colleagues, she said it can either be a chilli or bell pepper.

Hi there Guys, could someone please tell me if this ( photo attached) is a seedling or just a weed? Found this yesterday in my Peat moss bag. I think it is one of my Jack pine Bonsai seeds, i might be wrong.

It is. Seems like it's getting leggy. I always like to give them an hour or two of morning sunlight. Also beware of damping off. Since you used organic soil, not watering too much and keeping a good air flow is imperative against this disease.

So many pines are a pain in the arse but Jack pines and Huangshan pines are so simple.

Is my seedling the right way up or should the seed part face down into the ground
With seeds as small as Jack pine seeds it doesn't really matter. The pointy side of the seed is where the radical emerges. The radicle is the embryonic root of the plant, and grows downward in the soil. This is not really important for tiny little seeds like yours. In fact, if ever in a doubt on larger seeds, plant it sideways.
