I'm sure some of you have seen this before; but for those of you who haven't and those that want to again, enjoy! :)

I think in the next 20 years we will see some new bonsai styles come out.

xray, I'm not sure about new styles....except possibly styles unique to different areas of the world...many of which I think we're already starting to see. I certainly think that our understanding of the different styles is growing and we are not so bound to the rules as we used to be. But the Japanese styles are still very useful in helping us to classify things.

On this tree though... I don't think I would venture in to a new style of tree at all. But if themed landscapes like this (using bonsai) became more popular, I could see there being a new category for "Themed Bonsai Landscape" in some of the shows. This would certainly add another level of enjoyment to a bonsai show and may draw more interest from non bonsai enthusiasts.

Love it!
I am a huge LOTR fan - Books, not the movies. Maybe I will make a group planting called Entmoot.

Wow! Those things always inspire me - I seem to have a thing for landscape plantings. I might be one of those who encourage that new category at shows in the future... ;)

A lot of fun! But Samwise never lived with Frodo... Just sayin' :)

Doncha mean "never lived with Bilbo."???? I thot he lived w/ Frodo when they got back -- until he married little whatshername.

This has been around for some time, cool composition.
I think it was om BonsaiTalk years ago.

BT by the way is gone now, no archives show up, if you try thier old addy.

Haha! That looks like a lot of fun Mat :)

Chris Guise was the infamous "treebeard" on bonsaiTALK. He showed us this composition back in 2005. I sent him a stand that he won in the second contest I did there back in 2002.

Wow....ten years ago.....

It sure would be an awesome to see an update...if the composition still exists... :) I feel like i've seen a "treebeard" around still either on this forum or one of the others? (maybe IBC or BSG...?)
