Looking great. I know many would be concerned with the roots you got from layering.

I don't know how much that tie down wire is guiding me to that straight branch above it, but I think that straight branch above it should go.

Thanks, now I see it. I'll wait to see how it responds this year and ponder that and the large one shooting left.

Did some wiring, already removed; cut back again, and starting to extend again.

Starting to fill out a bit, will probably wait to wire again until next spring - we'll see.

Reduce all those long trunks by 2/3 and you will get low budding...
Yeah, I understand that, but I enjoy the character it has currently.

Don't worry, I'm working on other things in more traditional styles...

Yep, can see that. You'd have to work like hell and wait years to get the gnarly you have now.

Yeah, it's why I took the air layer where I did.

Reverse taper in spots, and s-curves - but I enjoy it and it's fun to work on while my stumps and other projects develop.

Absolutely insane rooting! I love it!

Not to detract from your awesome work but has anyone ever killed a privet??

I have only been at this for a few years, and only have two - but not me; not yet (knocks on wood).

Last big privet I had was ripped out of a hedge with a chain and thrown into a dumpster. I came along 4 days later, cut it back and potted it up. In summer. Grew great and I sold it a year later.
