Yes, I had read that. But I was still hoping the OP was willing to share about his attempt.

Too often, imo, 'failed' attempts get no follow up whatsoever. Very understandable, but still a shame. 'Failed' attempts can be just as valuable as succesful ones. Trying to figure out why something didn't work can give a ton of insight into what does work.

Just my 2 cents.
 
Update. The tree is happy and slowly becoming more compact and ramified. Only a few of those original grafts remain.
Very nice tree. It seems compact now. Does it mean that your tree did not need to be grafted, in hindsight ?
