Hi there all just joined the forum ( very excited ). http://bonsainut.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I've had a Bonsai habit for around 4 years now and have never met anyone else with this peculiar habit. I was hoping to put up some photos to get some feed back from folk in the know but my camera is currently out of order. But i have a question a year ago I started shaping a Rowan (no photo see above) and have not came across any info or examples in books or on net. Does this mean it is not a suitable species for Bonsai ? or have i just not been looking in the right places.http://bonsainut.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

Welcome! You should spend some time perusing the posts and meeting Klytus, who says he lives in the U.K.

Don't they sell cameras in the UK? Get a cheap digital and post some pics! Remember, I'm holding people like you responsible for making this the go to bonsai website on the internet. By the way if you can't find anyone in the UK, you haven't been looking. Try calling Kevin Willson http://www.kevinwillsonbonsai.com/ for starters then check out Graham Potter http://www.kaizenbonsai.com/shop/index.php to name a few.

Wild west? Try coming to Southern California, the land of the drive by shootings - they don't even let you have guns in the UK!

I'm guessing where the Rowan is concerned it's got to be Ab Obice Suavior!

Often seen as a street tree herabouts,one of the better choices of tree for that application.

we have guns here but the law doesn't control the the crims do to own one is a death sentence. Knife culture rules here its fashionable to stab or slash people especially if its for no reason also
Murder and drug capital in europe and oficially more poverty ridden than some 3rd world countries highest alcohol problem in the world all this despite the relatively small population.

Sorbus aucuparia Rosaceae.. is often used as a street tree but my love for this species is from it's natural habitat on mountain tops often from the tiniest of crevices in the most in hospitable and inaccessable places. Which is where it gets its more common name of Mountain ash.

not a great amount a few scots pine quite a lot of larch and the village where i live is locally abundant in yew.
 
also lots of unusual pines in peoples gardens and a pine with blueish needles not sure what it is
 
thanks for the reference. looks like i was going about it in the right way. Good to have confirmation though.
 
Nice tree ! but it lacks the natural slenderness of trunk and long sweeping/reaching branches of the tree in its natural habitat. Beutiful tree nonetheless
 
yeah its just a big stump, but it gave me a chance to see what the the leaves looked like, the leaves look small which is good for bonsai.
Im happy I got a chance to see something new as I dont know much about this species.
 
i've never seen leaves anywhere near that small on a rowan b4. I can see that he has removed most of the leaflets but even the remaining leaflets are way smaller than usual

Let's face it Donkey, mentioning the UK doesn't exactly strick fear in the hearts of most people. At any rate, if you can make it to the store without getting stabbed, maybe you can get a new camera and post those pics!

I'm adding Rowan with slender trunk to my trove of concepts.

As troves go it's not so large,but it does have Larch with whimsical trunk.
