It’s a silver maple, I left that out of the title because I wanted people to look at the pictures and help! 🤣 its looking worse and worse it seems. 😞
 
Looks like the maple got a good dose of sun, possibly at least somewhat under watered. There is some pest damage on top, during or before this. Weak tree leaves are a strong attractant for pests.

We’ve an autumn blaze that can have the same issues.

That’s my take.

Thank you both for the replies! It is a literati, I didn’t do anything to it this year at all. But there are some branches needing to be removed. Maybe I should do that and reduce the total leaf surface area!
