Hot....

What's going on? For the first time this year, the temperatures are over 100F in my area?
Some of my trees already dropped their leaves (such as the Liquidambar orientalis), and now they are confused....

What if...

What if it is not the thermal / optical properties of water that cause the burning? What if the water has salts (disolved in it) that deposit on the leaves and allow for easy burning with the sun? What if the water doesn't have enough salts in it and absorbs the needed salts from the cells in the leaves? What if the water somehow washes away some type of natural oil on the leaves, and these unprotected surface burns easier?

Last two days it has been over 100 in our backyard :( So much for Fall...

I think it is going to come crashing to an end this weekend. Supposed to drop 30 degrees and get rainy by Saturday. I agree - my trees are all wondering what's up?

Yes, it's over now. For a Canuck like me, in So. Cal., this is the start of my favorite season, between now and middle of June, next year. Cool and pleasant, and a nice break from constant watering. Which is a good thing since finally, the hockey season is back on.
