There are ways to cheat a bit--block and tackle under your deck/eaves/garage, etc. padded strapping around the trunk--hang the tree in the air by the strapping/block and tackle.
Exactly the idea. This should work even better than several hands grabbing where they shouldn't and breaking your old and aged bark or an important branch. Besides, hoists. levers and jacks have infinite patience and never complain or need to meet inconvenient time limits. Or need to be given the obligatory reward. Or get injured on the job.:p

I know this is an old thread and the young guys who've said their piece are now old too. Anyway, I'm 68 and I have been getting less interested in small bonsai as the years go by. So …... any distance moving I do with a two-wheel ”dolly” I think it's called that in English. Re-potting I do on the bench by sliding the whole pot towards the edge and tipping the tree (with the foliage over the edge) and the trunk resting on the edge itself. Then it's a matter of scooping the soil and tree out of the pot and let the tree stand on its roots on the bench until I've changed the soil. The tree itself isn't heavy once on its own. A block and tackle arrangement would be nice but I don't think it's necessary unless the tree (without soil) weighs a ton.

FWIW, that pomegranate isn't all that big...

Move the big bonsai? Six pack for the "of age" types and three fingers of milk with an Oreo chaser for my young charge should do it......

If you have large trees you really do need to get help. If you don't you probably will not be doing bonsai of this size much longer. My trees are very heavy anyway.

I feel if you have nice big and heavy bonsai's that are heavy and you need help lifting, it is a great problem to have and some good exercise also. If its to heavy to lift there is no choice but to get help weather its a hoist or another person. My girlfriend weighs 91lbs. I need to stay fit :)

Block and tackle, with drum strap. Cheap from Amazon Prime and fun to use. Now I buy big trees just so I can play with it! 3 cheers for mechanical advantage!

My big brother has been using this method for years. The disadvantage of this is that it is not mobile to lift the heavy pot from the garden's ground to the table and vice versa.

True and hard to keep it vertical. But it was only $20! Your lift looks like the better method. I was just looking at them on eBay!

Just look on Craigslist. It will be much cheaper and you don't have to pay shipping fee for this heavy stuff. I bought mine only $50 through Craigslist.

If you did the heavy lifting often and consistently with the proper ergonomics yes, it would be a way to stay fit, sort of, but doing it once in a while is a great way to cause injury.
