Hi all,
I just purchased a rosemary that's about as thick as a pencil. I just slip potted it into a larger pot in regular miracle grow potting soil. I read a few general care articles saying they need to be in a conifer mix, but I also read several threads on different bonsai forums saying they'll also thrive in regular potting soil.
I want to get lots of root growth to thicken up the base. How is this best achieved? Although this is the standard upright variety, (species) I'm aiming to form a contorted trunk. Should I start wiring now before the wood gets hard and brittle, or should I use the cut-and-grow method?
