One thing I am doing for certain is lopping off that huge forked jin that is too damn big and very contrived looking. :)

I would wait to remove any Jin until you have completed the design work of the tree. Jin can always be reduced later, but it can’t grow back.

Here ya go. Informal upright, literati. Similar profiles, but very different feel. Looking at these virts, even now I think the literati is perhaps too thick in the trunk, and too heavy in the foliage pads... but you get the idea. :)

Thanks for a very clear illustration of the difference between the two styles.

It was horrible. A monstrous protrusion calling ALL attention to ...IT.
It's far better gone. Some jin is left. That which looks like it COULD have happened naturally. Instead of being foisted into the tree JUST to make a jin.
You'd have had to see it. Scary! THE JIN MONSTER !!! Aiyeee!!

Just as a footnote, the LEAVE IT BE - s have won the vote.

Removing that obtrusive salad fork jin now has me looking (and appreciating) the tree for its foliage and tenacity.

Thanks all for everything.
