Would there be any difference in auxin flow to the top?

I haven't done it yet. Still mulling it over.

The lower foliage gets its juice from the top as those long branches TO the foliage come FROM high up on the tree.

@Arnold_K inserted a virt in another thread and I like the looks a lot!

I think people get confused about literati style. Literati is all about the trunk - an interesting, twisting, flowing trunk line - where the trunk itself dominates the design. I would not consider the virt to be a literati... rather I would consider it as an informal upright that needs a lower branch on the left side

This tree is not a good tree for literati style. The trunk is too thick for the height of the tree, and though it has a pleasing informal line, it does not lend itself well to the abstract, energetic motion that you would expect in a literati.

I have thought of clipping the long branches back for a long time. Just hadn't tried a virt to actually see it.

I have had to decrease the foliage on the long branches periodically because of die-off.

I know this isn't graved in stone. Just looking for some opinions. Actually, @Arnold_K posted " a kind of Literati-style" with his virt.

She is right. It just isn't a very good statement

I'm about to go out to dinner. When I come home I will create two virts... one of your tree as an informal upright. And one as a literati design based on your tree (since I can't realistically shrink the trunk width without some Photoshop magic).

Me personally the virt looks more like a real old forest tree, which I like.

In its current form, it looks just to busy.

There are a few options… don’t rush the decision. Look at the virts and sit with it for a bit.

Here ya go. Informal upright, literati. Similar profiles, but very different feel. Looking at these virts, even now I think the literati is perhaps too thick in the trunk, and too heavy in the foliage pads... but you get the idea.

The trunk is to heavy for a literati feel. I have a issue with not seeing past the negative space from the pot to the foliage. Such a long space and the trunk is so heavy feeling.

But end of the day...do you.

Yes. My virts are intended to simply show the difference between an informal upright and a literati using the same virt as a base to help people understand the difference between the two styles.

Sometimes just a different view though admirable...doesn't change the beauty in what one has already. Changes it...so the difference there. But end of the day...I totally agree with Brian.
