Is this D.E. any good?

So I am going to deeply discount my remaining stock of DE. I am not sure of the price I need to finish some other work before I get to it. Apparently, a few thousand pounds of bonsai soil is not conducive to moving. LOL!

wish I lived in Vegas...or a place where bonsai is healthy ...regardless economic and feisable, this is how I begin.. milehigh..wish I were in your sort of area of woods.
I really don’t know where my local club is at. Cheekwood Botanical Garden is the place...should call

@Johnathan amd other color worriers....

It is highly probable that of the 2 DE mines...
One sits below or near an Iron deposit, making one brown.

Like poo, green, brown, post crunchberry colorful...its all the same shit!

Sorce

My concern was simply aesthetic as vain as that is lol my trees are all in white DE now and are doing great. Survived winter on the bench in the white DE, so I'm not concerned about performance.

Just brown would look more natural than white is all. I'm going to be getting a bag from NAPA soon, and was considering going to Auto Zone just to get the brown.

I still gotta make it to that site one to buy some turface... I can't repot anything right now anyway.

Also thinking about getting some pumice and lava to either mix with or just have in case, I definitely gotta repot probably everything next growing season in better soil as I got alot of trees after the potting season was up.

Alot of trees still in plastic nursery pots...

Back when I started doing bonsai ....when I was like 19 (am 30 in june) I literally only used turface, I knew of akadama and lava rock, but in my town th3 club and everyone knew what it was and used it.

there was close to no dust in any bag I got (very little, but some) Its mostly 1/4 inch. Pretty uniformly throughout most bags. Its a nice orangish/ light tan. Good water retention, I would say just a little more so If not just about the same as the D.E. I'm using.

Its Very cheap.
Does not break down as far as I know (I cant remember it ever breaking down like D.E. does. I could be wrong tho)
Not chalky, more like broken down stone.
Its very similar to lava or pumice, just a smother surface area, may hold less water than those 2, but I'm pretty sure a tad more than D.E.
I havent potted anything in 5 years tho. So I'm not sure if it's still the same stuff even.
I really hope so, I used to really like it. It would be put in the same categories as D.E. I'm sure.
I just like it more tho
I'm a little weary of the D.E. but I hear good things and I have some, so I'm gonna use it

Its called Turface MVP. It comes in a big green/ white paper bag

I'll post pictures when I get some turface, hopefully soon. ( have cancer dr. Appt's lined up, so we will see when....)

It's from Auto Value.
Went to an O Reilly's and the guy said the Optisorb was the expensive stuff. He tried to get me to buy something made from "Fuller's Earth" and not DE. The Fuller's Earth was the same price as the NAPA so I left.

Stopped at an Advanced Auto Parts all they had was Fuller's Earth.

Just went and got the NAPA DE o_O

Nothing and I mean nothing holds more water than DE. Turface used to be the in thing and some still use it but it has fallen out of popularity largely due to this article from Michael Hagedorn: https://crataegus.com/2013/11/24/life-without-turface/ I have never seen a turface particle that was 1/4" it is more like 1/16". It does not break down because it is fully vitrified ceramic.

LOL no woods in Vegas. It's like growing bonsai on the surface of the sun!

Make sure you wear a mask while sifting that stuff..... not good for your lungs..

I tried to access your website for a reorder and I am not able to open it. Got any DE boxes left ?

The provider seems to be having problems. Till I get it fixed, here's the deal. I'm dropping the price way down to $7 for a flat rate box (about 3.5 gallons) plus the cost of a large flat rate box. (not sure off the top of my head I think they just raised it.) The only limit is how much I have on hand.

In any case, message me here and I will see it.
