Juniper Rigida Airlayer

so i have this juniper Rigida I've air-layed, being in autumn with winter around the corner would it be ideal to chop the layer and pot it. or at this time of year would it be smarter to wait till early spring? im looking to use the original tree for a forest (in a couple more seasons) but i couldn't pass up the airlayer. your thought.

Has the layer rooted? If not, leave it until you see plenty of roots in that bag; no rush if it doesn’t get much below freezing.
Doesn’t look like rigida. Rigida doesn’t get the mature scale foliage.

It has a few roots so I'll wait, we only get as low as 30*F around here at night and only like 2 night if we are lucky.

Ive had that same conversation with plenty of people. But man these needles are sharp and I can never seem to get a straight answer of what it is.
