Don't know if a similar thread already exists. Tried to search for one, couldn't find any, so why not start one! Got the inspiration from the nursery stock thread, and the need to create a log for one of my own mallsai
I'd like to see some crappy mallsai trees! And hopefully some progressions
Anyways, here's mine! A Chinese elm, bought at a flower shop in September, removed the red clay and repotted the same day (it survived!). Half forgotten that I had the cursed thing, I left it outside all winter, then brought back inside in February (under a grow light), repotted and root pruned, put in some decent soil (akadama, pumice and zeolite), AND THE THING LIVES!
No pics from 2017. February 2018:

The dedication! Such craftmanship!

You can still see the red clay! Don't worry, I removed the big crossing root on top as well! I also pruned it, basically leaving all forking branches on the tree. I honestly can't believe this thing still lives...

Two rings around the trunk? And a strange scar! (that's not wire coming out, it was once a branch I think...)

Beginnen of March, growing like nothing bad ever happened! (Note the exquisite neo-antique oriental pot!)

Your turn! Care to share some stories?
