These two look like they might be flower buds, hard to tell because when I zoom in it gets a little pixelly.

I think it was winter, repeated Freeze and Thaw cycles.....I lost several trees over this past winter. The only common denominator is that they were freezing solid and thawing out frequently.
This was my first winter in my new place, gonna take extra precautions next winter.

I got an azalea last fall to play with. I mulched it against the house , and it did fine. I actually forgot about it and never watered it dec-March .
