Hi everybody! I just joined today because I need some guidance. I bought this Chinese evergreen and I'm seeing some very interesting patterns emerge, but they're probably not bonsai approved. Suggestions for the trunk?16203490776401247556088732431691.jpg

Greetings and welcome aboard BNut!

That’s a good start of a prebonsai tree. At this point, If I were you I’d let that juniper grow out more. Depending where you are you might even want to put it in the ground for at least a couple years to grow thicker and add more branches. Then you will have the beginnings of a really decent bonsai.

obtw, please double click your icon and enter your approximate location and USDA Hardiness zone. That way folks can tailor their advice to your location.

Suggestions for the trunk?
Welcome to the club!

Full Sun always outdoors

Let it go semi dry before watering. Get used to the weight by hefting it for moisture content

Late Summer to early Fall, for the trunk, get some bonsai wire on it and put some movement into it
bends outwards at major branches. The older it gets the harder it will be to put good bends into it.

Watch these videos on wiring

Notice I did not address the title of the thread.
as @Deep Sea Diver said, let it grow out. Might not be a bad time to up pot a little bit
into bonsai soil.

Actually, next year would better to pot up. The soil looks well draining
and we don’t know when it was last potted. Is this a cutting of a juniper?
