My first year of bonsai

I must need caffeine — hard to find the words I want.
How about “a first year I admire & aspire to” — that will have to do 😊

Dang thanks for the kind words. I have to start with i wouldnt have survived it without all of the horticulture help from everyone here at bonsai nut. I first came to this forum heartbroken after killing am 8 yr old serissa. Their kind words and support is why these babies survived.

I would go with shallow oval unglazed for a broom style, may also go with drum pot.
Actually pot in 2nd photo you posted seems good.

But ... Your tree is still quite rough, not ready for an expensive pot

My pots are priceless anyways! Ill see what clays are available to me because last time i made a pot there was 4 types of clay i could pick from. Drum always eluded me because i cant be tasked with making the perfectly symetrical little dots. Way too much work.

Name of your azalea variety?

Hell with symmetrical!
Simon Leach always talks about decorations not needing to be perfect because the eye will be fooled into seeing them as perfect. It's quite true.

Though I don't think a drumstyle would be so suitable. But hell, make one anyway!

Sorce

Sorry, it hiccuped & I can’t edit one out —

Looks like a Serissa to me

Tried my first time at 2d styling- using only a picture reference for my styling choices.

I find looking at the 3d often gets me lost in the depth, never finding the profile shape especially with this one.

With a few pinches and moving of branches, i managed to guide it from " pure chaos" to a epic looking tree20210716_212647.jpg20210716_214122.jpg
