My new Jade leaner

My original thought was to repot at about 25* angle to bring the tree more upright. Windswept Jade just don't seem right to me... dunno I do like to be different. He has a few more and even more motorcycle needing work.

Pot Ideas? I think oval and glazed. What say you?
It's in a 4in clay flower pot only about 2 in deep and 3in wide as it's so shallow in the pot.
Trunk nearly 2in at soil line.

This does have a nice form to it already....
Evenly tapered...

I feel like glazed "says" to wet at the feet...
And maybe even physically keep it too wet at the feet.....

I'd like to see it in something unglazed.

This might work. Round 4 1/2 x 2" deep ID. It's current occupant is not expected to survive the winter.IMG_20161201_162542467.jpg

When you repot use a heavy ceramic just as deep as it is wide including the base - no taper
Close to your suggestion? Little wider than deep but firm footing.

Man we had good pot in South Africa....Swazi poison it was called ;)

I believe it's referred to as "Swazi Gold" now and it's the "Holy Grail" of marijuana!!

Poison?!?! Such a heinous characterization of Mother Nature's bounty.........:D:D:D:D

Emphasize the lean on your crassula, absolutely go for a windswept look!!! It's already more than half-way towards being actually believable in that design style.

I'm a little confused:confused:

That should do for a year or two. They don't usually have a large root system. I would strongly recommend a cactus type mix at repot. Get it damp and let it dry out at least a week before watering. The one at the office gets water once a week most of the year and she skips a week when it is humid. They grow rather fast for us and hers gets a larger pot every two years because of it. Once it hits the large 5 gallon size it will be left in it and allowed to grow down to the counter and wild. It is of course a different type that can get rather large but the same grow rules apply to succulents. Also try not to get the foliage wet by watering at the surface. Cool plants and you can get them to flower using greenhouse methods and timing.

I think you would and the plant will be happier left to grow upright. Myself I would not spend the time needed to keep it wired properly or install another vertical grow light in the plant room to keep growing in one direction. Upright that variety can be made to look like a tree without a lot of fuss...

The thing was very attached to that little clay pot. Considered breaking the pot but a letter opener and persistence prevailed. It was really in there. A corkscrew would have been easier and the plug which came out looked like a cork with no soil of any kind visible. Solid hard cork.

Didn't know what to do with the solid cork of a root ball. So I didnt do anything. Can I reduce at all? There was no soil and it is the texture of a chunk of wood. I just set it in the larger pot at a new angle and wired it in.
Can I cut into them roots at all? Like to at least take a half inch off the bottom.DSCN5596.jpg DSCN5590.jpgDSCN5591.jpg

Sounds like it was propagated in those cubes the weed man uses.

I had a "leaner" to.

Was leaner a word before bonsai?

Yes but I would wait until it is actively growing in early Summer. In general they don't like a lot of root work so young one's get a repot every two years and older can go five years. I would recommend you also take off some of the green new growth at the same time - it most often drops after root pruning. After pruning give it less direct light for about two weeks allowing it to recover then put it back in its normal spot. ;) This is yet another plant that grows so much root can grow itself out of the pot but does not tolerate a lot of work on healthy roots... The upside is you will have enough dry/useless root to trim without a big setback.

I think it has spent its entire like in that one little round clay pot.
Life... that was supposed to say.
Thanks for the good advice Grimmy. I hope I can follow it... it's not setting how I wanted it. Bugging me. Naging at me...

Couldn't stand it anymore so I had to cut into that root plug a little. It was a solid plug. Took 1/4-1/3 inch off the bottom and cut a couple fat roots in the center to make room. Opened up the roots gently by hand and stuffed into the pot. Soaked the pot and left to recover I hope.

I like how it's sitting now, as long as it lives.

6 weeks later with a lot of new growth. Seems happy. I've been placing the thin side toward the light and growth is pulling that way hard already shown in the second pic. Winter fun. I like it. Took a day off and loved all my indoor plants. Some shown in the last pic.
