National Show Display

I like classical display just fine, but well thought out and executed innovative displays really do it for me. I skew to the side of display that doesn't scream but accompanies the tree with some new ideas and flair. Your collab is right in that sweet spot. Congrats to you both.

Hey everyone! Some of y’all know, but I just wanted to share a project I had the honor of working on with @mattspinniken . He asked if I might have a stand premade for one of his larch that was in the show. I didn’t, but I def had some ideas. I sketched a few things up, presented a rendering and he committed! I just got back from the show and it was surreal seeing something I made in the presence of so much great work. Now to get a tree in the show next. 🤔 enjoy some pics!

Also so cool to meet so many cool members from this site that I only know through a screen.
It was one of my favorite displays, that stand is great

This is really big time Judy. I’ve got a ton of respect for the trees you’ve presented and how you present them. Thank you. If it wasn’t for @mattspinniken i may not have even got the chance!

As I mentioned before, great stuff! And it was very good to meet you and Matt. Am I mistaken in thinking that was not your only stand in the show?? I thought that tall fabulous stand under the best conifer was also made by you???

Thanks John! Actually I made the accent stand that sat next to that big one. That big one is an Austin Heitzman. In a round about way though, I’m just going to say that I collaborated with Austin And Dan turner. 😂

This is beautifully modern and creative! Please do consider submitting something like this to PBE, they love modern out of the box takes on traditional display.
Thanks Mary! As someone has mentioned also. It was incredibly kind of you to put together those buttons for everyone, with as full as your hands are. Raising kids is easily the most difficult thing one can let alone having to grown one! I love what Nao and yourself are doing though. Locally I sold my wood jewelry at art markets for years and it takes a lot of grit and determination outside of just making the work.

I’ve def got some ideas brewing for the pbe. I don’t think I’ll have a tree ready by this next year, but it’s in the works for sure!

My old study group from GA took a stroll around the show yesterday to discuss the various trees and displays. We discussed this display at length, and Tyler Sherrod, a classically trained bonsai professional, really enjoyed it and the story it told. We all enjoyed it!

Congratulations Dannyman! I enjoyed the pairing as well and your back story on it.
The accent stand @johng mentioned, I thought you had made the main stand due to a recent
hearing issue. From our distance to the accent stand when we were discussing it
I didn’t get to appreciate it at all. Do you have any photos of it and maybe elaborate
on the burl?
I don’t think we would have met had it not been for the pins Mary made.
We should coordinate a “coffee break” at these events to meet up.
After asking over a dozen folks if they were on BN I gave up.
Great work buddy!

Wow! Thank you all for such great words and thoughts on this. I was honestly suprised to not hear a bit more negative criticism (which would be fine, by the way)

It was overall an incredible experience and so fun working with Danny and hanging out.

@mattspinniken and @Hartinez it was great to meet you both this weekend. I’ve said to a few people that this was my favorite composition in the show. It wasn’t the biggest, most developed individual tree, but the totality of the composition was just amazing. I kept coming back to look. Such beautiful synergy across the tree, the stand, the accents, the rocks… I loved it!

I didn’t realize people leased kusamono for their displays until Young Choe mentioned it somewhere

Makes sense, it’s an art on its own

I saw her give a demo and it was all just stuff she found in someone’s yard that morning. Very cool.
