That is wire holding on the cork bark?

It's not a cork bark pine just very old tree、and the wire is only noticeable up close. It's very thin gauge wire. I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of the wire is. There are a good number of lines with bark like this. Some at Shunkaen and Omiya Bonsai Museum.

Thanks for the photos! Definitely check Bill V.'s blog. LOTS of interesting stuff (in all four parts of it). Ever wonder how much a Kimura "mountainside" planting goes for? ($15,000).
