Nova bonsai garden

So moving is not all roses and springtime after all. Truck broke down in Georgia and had to get towed. Not an expensive repair, but a damn inconvenience to be sure. View attachment 437496
That sux...Looks like you're bringing the Texas heat along with you. Forecast is 97 F for here tomorrow. 94 today and mid-90's on Sunday...

I’m in Houston right now and it’s an inferno. Hopefully it’ll cool down again for a bit before summer arrives in force. I could use a break.

Wish I could send some of the rain and cold down your way, but it does not seem to want to leave.
best wishes.

Oh man. I live in New Mexico Frank, we could sure use a lot of that moisture and cool air. Put in a good word to the rain gods for us down here in the south west.

We have broken records for precipitation this winter and average 5 degrees below normal for our temperature for the spring. Biggest concern now is if it warms up too quickly the snow melt from higher elevations will contribute to flooding issues.
Seems like the extremes across the world are becoming more pronounced.
It would be nice if it could be energy balanced like pines and distribute the load more equitably across the continent.

If we build buffer zones of trees and vegetation to absorb the water then the swing will be less. If we keep stripping the land and building concrete jungles then it will be worse. Unfortunately we are doing the latter.

Since the graduations are in the bag, my attention turns to three things. 1) packing. 2) closing on the house in Houston (that’s tomorrow). 3) transporting the bonsai collection to Virginia.

Let’s talk about 3.

I have a plan - I’ve rented a 26’ truck to transport the trees. My plan is to lay down a bed of pallets in the back. I’ll screw the pallets together and strap them down to the bed with tie-downs. I’ll place the larger trees on the pallets and secure them to the pallet boards. Next, I’ll put my benches on top of the pallets and screw them to the pallet boards as well. On top of the benches, I’ll put sheets of 3/4” plywood and screw that down to the bench tops. On top of the plywood, I’ll put my smaller trees - I’ll drill holes through the plywood to secure them for transportation.

I have a few taller trees in shallow pots. I’ve tied them down with guy wires. I’ll probably secure the root ball with packing film as well before packing Them in.

What do you think of my plan? I’ve never transported a collection like this - any suggestions?

Scott

Plan?..............

.....but this might be something more appropriate......

Sounds similar to what @Dav4 did in his recent move, using his benches as a means to secure the trees. Him and @Bonsai Nut himself will probably have the best advice.
