Time to start thinking about a container!

This is a perfect example of how it should be pdone. It's sculpture...
yes and in a fairly short timeframe a presentable outcome has been achieved.
this is what happens when you select decent material instead of messing around with mediocrity.

Pretty cool. I spend 10 minutes looking at the first photo before scrolling down to see what I would do. I was unable to come up with anything. These types of threads are very important learning material. Thank you for sharing and look forward to updates.

Your progressions are like a tutorial, amazing stuff.

I must confess now that I look closer, the pic of the tree as nursery stock is actually a different tree. I originally bought two very similar pieces of this material. A friend talked me out of one of them. Here is a photo of the one pictured after I chopped and repotted it....

I thought something was slightly off, in my head I was thinking why didnt he keep some of those branches! the other one had plenty usable bones.

It took me about 3 years before I could look at something and imagine how it could look in the future. I couldnt draw up a virtual until about 3-4 years. now i have so many images stored in the subconscious. its much easier to see things even in a bush, pretty much instantly.
I didnt build up that subconscious by constantly asking people how to style my tree or what should i do with this tree, i dont think thats the way to hone your vision personally, you end up always building a picture of what others like and never really putting your own stamp on things. I built mine by sifting through progression threads, going to parks and photographing trees, buying countless trees and working them my own way, googling trees, googling forms, styles, etc etc
