So. Everyone is getting all these new trees. Has anyone bought a Bristlecone pine?

Gah! I have ALWAYS wanted a bristlecone! Where on earth did you get this???

At the nursery nearest here. 90 miles away in Bay City Michigan. I picked this one up last spring. Tough trees actually. Stayed out with the tamaracks and my little white pine all winter. I think it liked below zero temps.
If you do find one by you put it in a soil that drys out fast. I had weeds in the bucket that I left in so I knew when to water. When the weeds droop give it some water. Mine is planted in 60% Napa floor dry and 40% pea gravel. That's right. Pea gravel. For drainage.

Bristlecone pines make excellent bonsai. There are some really old specimen trees out in Washington. They are high elevation trees that stay small, grow very slowly, with awesome character.

I agree with slow. It barely moves. Much slower and it would be going backwards.

They're native to the Rockies, which happen to be,,,,oh hey, just outside my house. However, they are not readily available oddly enough. How much was your tree? I'd go collecting but they grow in some pretty crazy places in the mountains. There is one on mount Evans.

Man. That's a good question. $50.00 maybe. Give or take $20.00? Somewhere around there. Sorry not sure. I've bought a few trees the last couple of years and trees are kind of expensive around here. So. Let's go with $70.00.
You're asking a guy who seldom remembers what he had for dinner the night before. I think.

Good grief that's pretty good... Good find! All I ever see here are over priced landscape trees that are grafted nasty sticks.
