Hello everyone.

I have an old ume that has started leaking sap.
Does anyone know why it would do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd be worried about borers. Do you see frass on the soil surface? You can also look for bark damage or holes in the bark where you find sap. If you're lucky, you might even find the offending grub. In any case, I'd be applying a granular systemic insecticide to the soil surface.
 
That is classic borer damage frass or not. I’d clear the sap and have a look for a hole.

Fwiw borers love fruit species and dead wood (like the wood above the sap) draws them. They are specially equipped to detect deadwood as it can offer an easy way in
