Prunus x cisterna. Purple leaf sand cherry.

Nice tree!

I have a few I'm working on. They take hard pruning well and will back bud everywhere. If I prune after mid September, any new growth doesn't make it through the winter.

This one is coming along, picture from last year. It really needs a pruning and some wire:

Only real issues I have are with inch worms and catepillars, and sometimes borers.

Nice!
Thanks soo much for the info. I will plan on a good prune in a month or so. Next year, perhaps a root ball reduction.

Mine is still going, but lost it's primary left branch over the winter. I will have to completely redesign it...

Sorry to hear that. I have had one growing in my landscape the last several years. Last winter we had a ton of snow and I think the rabbits chewed almost every branch off. It came back stronger than ever.
This winter I pruned it and took a bunch of hardwood cuttings. They are all budding out so I'm interested to see if they grow roots.
The flowers on this tree smell amazing.
