I have collected a few boxwood the past couple of years. Some had to be split/cut at the base to make a tree. They have made it two years now so I think they are going to live. I noticed this weekend they all have some small white berries that I have not seen before. I know boxwood are slow growing so I have done very little cutting the past 2 years. What is the best way to help these fill out? Should I let the berries stay or cut?

Thanks

I find that the flowers slow the tree tremendously so I remove them ASAP.

I am a pincher and my boxwoods seem to respond to this treatment really well. The ones I collected last year are so bushy (like a pom-pom), I will whack some branches back or remove them!

Thanks Poink88, you have some nice trees in your post and I saw boxwood in there, did not want to hijack you thread. If removing them helps yours, that is what I will do.

My first few times was "awkward" and resulted in damaged leaves. You will get the hang of it after a while though. I use pinch and rotate/twist movement to remove the flowers.

BTW, I also noticed that most nodes that bloomed won't sprout/bud. In heavy blooming plants I usually start by cutting back the branches (making sure the terminal leaves do not have flowers) before removing what flowers are left.

Poink88, I did not get out to remove the small flowers that we taked about untill about a week later. At that time it looked like the flowers were turning into new leaves, so I did not remove any. I have a close up from a week ago, it is too blurred to tell much. I took a picture yesterday of 2 of them and you can see the new leaves, that was flowers. I did pinch off the end bud of the new growth in hopes of some back budding, I have not see any new shots since I got them.

You probably mistaken the leaf buds for flower buds.

BTW, you have lots of awesome boxwood on your benches.
