I have a ficus that had some very long roots which fit perfect over a rock out of one of my aquariums. I repotted it about 2 weeks ago and put the roots over a rock then buried the whole roots/rock in the pot. About how long will it take to be able to expose the rock/roots?

This is a cutting I put on the rock in February and repotted into this pot in September and all those roots are new. Considering you already have the roots to wrap around the rock you've got quite a head start so if you've already done it I'd say by early next summer you could expose them and get it in a nice pot.

I did take a pic of the roots over the rock before I buried it, let me see if I can find that and I'll post it. That's give an idea for where I'm at maybe.

Okay here's a pic when I set it on the rock before I buried it. I'm in no hurry with this one as it is my first ror, just wondered how long to expect.
Her's the pic, I chose this rock because it fit the existing root structure so well.

BTW I have read where its best to wrap it with a nylon or such, should I take it back up and do that so the roots are wrapped tight on the rock?

My weed stinks enough to not have to put it in my sock.
So do my feet!

R.O.R. ?

Consider this one your learning experience and you'll get it right next time!

Lol. Seriously. That rock is gonna disappear- or- you'll lose some of the stringy roots which may make it a bit nicer IMO.

Time? When you think its time, wait another 3 years!

Uhg....why do I even bother... LOL;)
LMAO!
Yes ! This spring, rap it up! Or don't!
Good if you don't.
Better if you do. :)
I have 4 quince rapped with plastic rap and 2 with wire, all about the same size rocks in 1 gallon pots.

That rock can be completely above grade in 3.
I can post pics in the morn of a 2 year exposure with about 4" .

All kidding aside because when it does boil down to it, I do respect your input Sorce, you really serious about 3 yrs?

Sorry man I have no idea what that means, explain please?
Your rock can be completely on top of the soil in three years.

Honestly. That could be right. Less if you're rocking a weed growing setup.

Either way. I don't think you will be happy with the results if they are perfect.

Rocks a bit small. Lost already.

Mine is the same way though. Small rock. Never will be in scale with the foilage.

Yada yada.

I'd pot it at where you want next spring. About half inch up from rock bottom?
And start letting those skinnies die and the below soil roots keep the big roots strong.

Better to rush this one IMO. Or the rock will get lost.

Basically. Learn here and start another!

Really so you think the rock is too small? I thought the roots fit over it perfect, so how come the rock shows too small? I'm just trying to learn since this is my first ROR so just asking what to look for is all so I know better in the future.
