This dwarf schefflera came from fuku bonsai. It is almost 3 years old. It has been in training for around 10 months. There is one branch that has around 7 leafs and i was thinking about cutting it back to 2 or 3. How many leafs or how long do you guys let your get before cutting them back? Too i am under the impression with tropical trees i can prune about any time of year?

At this stage in your young tree’s life, you might ask yourself “why do I want to cut it back?” If you don’t have a very good reason to cut it, don’t. Let it grow a lot, to get your trunk nice and thick. Schefs can always be cut way back and they will push new growth.

There is a section on the branch that has a big gap between internodes in the middle of the branch. There is a gap because I had it inside to long before bringing it outside for summer. I do see what your saying and I guess it can be cut off later and same results would still be achieved. Thank you.
