Could shari over time change the growth direction of my tree? Lets say I decide to carve a line in a 45 degree angle on the side of my trunk will that change its growth direction?
+1, if I read your question right...see post #10 in this thread...Sharis in strategic locations can influence the way the trunk thickens.
I have to disagree on this claim. I heard this before but my observation tells me otherwise. I did cut off all the grow tips on my bougie but the darn thing keep on growing. Not this the tips, the whole branch.No. Trees grow from the ends of branches.
JKL is correct as far as the length of the branch is concerned... but a growing branch can add mass through both growth at the tips (apical meristem) and thickening of the branch through the cambium.I have to disagree on this claim. I heard this before but my observation tells me otherwise. I did cut off all the grow tips on my bougie but the darn thing keep on growing. Not this the tips, the whole branch.

Thanks for all the responses...
I'm just trying to get a better understanding of how this works before I start attacking any trees... So after the shari is made the cambium slowly swells around the wound now when the trunk gets bigger will it cause the tree to lean more to one side? or will it just continue to grow as is?
