I dug up this honeysuckle in 2018.

not the most promising material but I have been growing it in a shallow pot ever since. here are some development photos.

Here is a picture of it today. I never let it flower and I pinch constantly. It has never been defoliated but I always consider doing it.

I probably will change the planting angle again in the future.

just sharing but any advice or criticism is welcome.

I assume this 'honeysuckle' is one of the Lonicera sp. Do you know which species?
You have done a great job developing the branching. The larger leaf species I've been working with has really coarse growth and long internodes so really hard to get compact growth.
Lonicera nitida is another 'honeysuckle with much smaller leaves and very short internodes. I'm finding it much more usable for small bonsai.

Thanks. This is Lonicera maackii, the nasty, invasive and typically large leaf variety. This is a truly hated plant where I live. I tried to dig up a huge one a few years ago but the work killed it. I am honestly surprised at how small I have been able to keep it. This little tree is 8 inches tall from the soil line.

I have a ton of these invasive shrubs around my neighborhood. This one is really nice but by the conversation, it sounds like they don't make very good bonsai.

What do you think, is it worth digging one up?

It might be worth it. I'm just having fun playing with free material. I have seen some nice ones on Instagram. They don't seem to heal wounds well and don't seem to like being wired much but if you can get a nice looking trunk/base for free, why not?
