Show Off Your Mulberry Bonsai

Defoliated a few days ago O.O

I noticed new roots growing in a hollow area of the trunk right where they will be needed, and other areas, so I raised the soil level around the tree with an old mirror frame to improve the nebari.
The trunk does flare out a bit more than you can see in the pictures, too.

Starting a few trees, and I must say as a beginner, the mulberry is so damn fun! It is responsive to pruning, good for practicing wiring, hard to kill, buds easily, etcetera... Just an awesome species!

Fruiting for the first time this year and been in training since it was even a littler tiny sapling..17443186679611049621066578268970.jpg17443185397595641788589346130756.jpg17443185943384495548889657061718.jpg

This one character-laden specimen has a story to tell, but I just guessed. Found on roadside, having been positively ravaged by the road crews for years. When I found it, it was growing completely flat on the ground. The hollow was caused (??) by a Bush Hog some years ago. It took me a couple of years to train it to an upright position. It throws sprouts everywhere but where I want them. I'm in the process of trying an approach graft. The "new" side seems to be getting bigger than the "old" side.

I love a tree that has stories, and this one definitely does! I hope you keep us updated on its development....nice tree!

I'll add a bit of info. The tree had been flattened and split open like a wagon wheel, with much smaller trunks radiating out from the center. This one was the biggest and best of the lot.
