I thought I'd made a thread for this one but I couldn't find it so I'm making a new one.

I got this elm for a steal in February of '23.

First thing I did was repot it into the same pot and changed the front a bit 20230215_204301.jpg20230215_204253.jpg20230217_163232.jpgI also applied a guy wire to the branch a bit

Leafed out a couple of weeks later

This spring I repotted again and tweaked the front one last time. I also decided to try @Walter Pall hedge prune method this year.

A couple of weeks ago I hedge pruned it for the fourth time this year. I've always gotten 3 prunes per season but it was growing so well this year I'm trying to get one more out of it.

Can honestly say I'm impressed with the pruning method! Here it is today. I'm letting the lowest branch run to thicken up

I like to make a before and after to see progress. Feb 23 to Sept 24

Quite well done for such a 'weed' type tree*! It will eventually make a really fine tree when you get the height/trunk thickness/canopy down!
* don't mean to be demeaning but the bonsai snobs will be in attendance.

Yours is the first tree pictured on this thread.

Hey now! Great to see this tree progressing along. I collected, started this tree and sold it too…well. You I guess! Awesome work and I’m excited to get to follow it along.
Yo no way?!! That's awesome! I've always wondered if anyone from the auctions would be on here. Too cool!

This is November of 21 I believe.

It's come a long way, great work! I appreciate you seeking it to me 😎 I love the bark on it. I'll keep updating this post

Update on this tree.
I didn't repot this year, instead just opted for a soji to remove organic fertilizer leftover from last year and improve drainage. This is after removing the top layer but forgot to take a picture after pruning some of this roots

Fully grown in last week

After pruning and partial defoliation. I cut part of the apex that was an eye poker branch and was making the tree lean too far forward. You can see the cut past near the top.
