Are there any particulars that one must consider when looking for a slab. I have a three tree shimpaku grove that I would like to put on a slab. A piece of brown flage stone is what I have been looking at. I would be able to put holes in it too. Here are the trees that I want to put on a slab. 11junfa[1].jpg

Thanks !

Depends on how much you want to look and/or spend...

The flatter and thinner, the better. Typical flagstone isn't really thin enough, especially for thinner trees like these. It can also look a bit artificial, since it hasn't been chipped down on the edges or sculpted. That said, it can be used...

To see what can be done to modify flagstone for bonsai scroll down this newsletter:

Slate works, and usually can be split into thinner and thinner pieces.

However, I must say I think your composition is fine in that shallow pot.
