Stoned...

So a couple things...

Firstly.. another present from Andrea arrived.. super excited.. again.04941641-B6AF-420F-BAC1-D48329D21629.jpeg

Second.. I’ve been working with a lump of a Pat Horsley clay body (If you are unfamiliar with Patrick’s work, as I was, I would STRONGLY recommend “getting to know it”, as I did.) and I LOVE it... it behaves unlike any clay I’ve tried yet.. SOOOO strong.. but sleek/light feeling. Very... “futuristic”... this body even goes through a drying phase where the body get’s DARKER for a period.. I had NEVER seen that... Thanks, @mwar15 !

Well.. I threw a “fancy” lil triangle thing-a-ma-bob and textured, rock-draped Doo-hickey.. they are almost dry.. so I will wait to photograph them until they “finish”..

But I ALSO threw a little garden bridge!! I worked out a new method for a certain wood grain.. relying HEAVILY on @ShadyStump ’s specific tools.. to give a specific feel/pattern/grain... I’m in LOVE with this one.. well.. the WOOD... the problem was the supposed-to-be-Asian-esque “shin railings..”.. they REFUSED to register visually as such.. and force perspective to “HAND railing”.. THIS skews the scale with the wood grain snd “screws” it all up... this piece exists no longer.. I just wanted to share the story.. AND the wood-grain.D83FC39B-ED96-4608-81C5-2EFDD34D5548.jpeg210C6D64-98B4-499D-944A-627A91E1731D.jpeg

Glad you like it. It is my 2nd favorite clay. I just like my current stuff better
It KEEPS impressing me.. the ONLY clay I like better is the TL - Structural.. I’m pretty sure THAT is my new favorite “Base white/buff NON-porcelain clay body” .. I ...uh .. had to put those specs in that description just because I’m REALLY enjoying porcelain.. and I feel that my “leap” in that direction has just begun..

ALL the bodies you sent for sampling are SO DAMN GOOD... and CONSISTENT.. across the board.

I Also have some yellow, cone 5/6, Sourced from Washington, on it’s way here.. I’m interested to see how it performs against Oregon Clay..

Oregon is my favorite place (So far). I lived transient in the Eugene area for a while.. kind of on purpose.. I HAD access to certain funds.. but it’s absolutely gorgeous outdoors.. and the climate allows easy year-round “Vagrancy”.

Do you go to the Fair?... if so, how has Covid Affected it?

Glad you like the clay. I bet they would ship it!!

the fair isn’t really my style.. but I know it is popular
Hehe! I attended the fair last in 2007.. it was great fun and I love the atmosphere... but that.. well a boiled down, integrated version of “that” is just kind of how I live my life. 🤣

I doubt it’d be much my style, these days... ... ... maybe just during the day. 🤣🤣🤣

This... is.. eye-opening....

I feel like I’d go CRAZY with “restlessness” while firing electrically.. but the price alone... is worth considering for the investment.

If you don’t want to read it.. basically there’s a formula for finding Electric Firing Costs based around your local “Price per Kilowatt Hour”.. and the Firing Noted in the Article ran (medium speed) 100 lbs to Cone 6 for $8.47 Worth of Electricity, at a local rate of .12 per Kilowatt Hour... It costs me 20-30 dollars.. LP, to fire (Slow speed) my small/medium chambered kiln to cone 6..

So I called Utilities this morning, to find out how my local rate compared with the .12 per KWh....

My local rate is .11

Soooo I’m reconsidering ... “things”

🤓

I think it’d be cool to produce/fire clay year-round, too..

And If i can fire cheaper.. like literally under half my LP prices.. the biggest investment is the initial one..

The lady that wants me to stack her kiln/show her how I do it, so we can start firing clay together.. seems.. busy....

I wonder if she’d be interested in “renting” it to me... as long as I could make the first payment after my first fire, we’d be all set.

..she’s a business lady.. so she’d probably swing for it.

” lil triangle thing-a-ma-bob..
Raw-glazed... outer edges waxed.. (inner edges sanded down after picture was taken)will not ALWAYS look that chunky ‘round the edges.. that’s (AG021 ((BC01))) which I am pretty excited about.. going for copper crazing around intentional pinholing, either way.. it’s built around my functioning “Ash Glaze Platform”.. so I‘M not TOO worried.. ..we’ll see.. 🤣

and textured, rock-draped Doo-hickey..
Waiting on some oxides that I am currently unable to make, for varying reasons, to finish this one..

not my favorite.. but It draws me to itself in a strange way. Pat Horsley clay (RiDICULOUSLY good body).. aand I forgot to sign it. 🤓

Hmmm
My Luddite self could get interested in a potato powered wheel.
that bass is all potato powered, except for my jig saw. because I was feeling lazy.
I like my hobbies to be old school and unpowered as much as possible.
I deal with tech at work.

I like my hobbies to be old school and unpowered as much as possible.
I deal with tech at work.
Tell me about it.
Spend all day at work in front of a screen, why would I want one the rest of the time?

I really want a wood lathe, but between the cost, my finances, and needing to learn a new gadget, I'd almost rather build an 18th century style pulley driven device, maybe peddle or weight powered.
Alas, my mechanical engineering skills leave more to be desired than my wood working skills.
