This thing has an impossible base. The only way to get out of that is to air layer. The top also suggests a different style.

Your thoughts?

Still looking at a ground layer next year but for now we are here.

If doing Literati base is feature, not fault. Can change tree angle, viewing angle, notch trunk, achieve VERY different look🤔. Love beautiful leaves. Personally would do all these things.

I might do just that with this tree.
 
Perhaps the best revelation for me was that, when chopped tamarind will bud everywhere and the new branches are naturally pointed downward and will grow out until they find the sun to turn up. It's pretty easy to train the branches on them.
 
I am growing one from seed, and even after taking good care, it's becoming quite leggy.
It's a relief to know they bud back after a hard chop, that's exactly what I will do, thanks!
 
Tree had a difficult winter. It is finally recovering.
