I was in vacation in OH at an Airbnb. I saw these seedlings in the gravel. They were three inches tall. I decided they would be an interesting souvenir. Now the largest leave is nearly three inches long. Does anyone know what it is?IMG_20230817_193049854.jpg

An elm of some sort

Ulmus spp.

For sure someone can kee the species apart. I am not one of them.

are the leaf tops rough and fuzzy or smooth. How about the under side?

Exact question I was going to ask..

The fact that the leaf base is asymmetrical really narrows it down to 2 or 3 NA ulmus

Singly-toothed leaf margins.

Asymmetrical leaf base...

Rough not glossy surface...

No significant "hair" on the twigs, or wings...

...in Ohio...

It's an American Elm...
