Trees for Today and Tomorrow

Update to this Premna

Finally go to remove the sacrifice branch that was helping to thicken the lower left branch today... Then went through wiring into place a lot of new growth that had popped since, and did some trimming and fine tuning.

Update to post #170

From Chopped Stump with no branching in February, to this in 5 months... Not to shabby...
Also when you consider I did a complete root reduction as well.

Second Privet I picked up this weekend... well was given it free, seeing that 99 percent of it is dead!

The live part was a new trunk coming off of the base of the dead portion, down by the soil line... In order to try and make the composition a complete package, I removed all of the soil, and found that I could tilt the tree in its planting, to where it will eventually hang over the top of the deadwood below. For the moment I left the main trunk a little long. Not sure if it will end up staying like this, or will be cut lower, and a change in direction introduced? Will see how any new growth in this region pops.
This obviously will call for a rather unusual pot design... but doable.

Also, ran out of fine copper wire, so didn't wire the top branch, it was going to be wired back to the right. Plastic nursery pot is an 8 inch bulb pot.

Update:

A year ago this month, I dug a Catlin Elm up that was a $10 Home Depot Special that I had put in the ground the year before...
I removed 99 percent of it's roots and chopped the trunk. Wanted to make a Shohin.

Tonight I decided to do some work on some trees, and a year after the trunk chop... this is what it looks like.

Will be nice to see what it looks like next year...
BTW... I think the Kanji on the pot says "You Rock"!

Can't find the before Picture of this... Not sure what in the world happened to it?
So, sorry about that... But decided to do some work as well on this Shohin Sleeping Hibiscus tonight as well.
This tree had a trunk chop and removal of 99 percent of it's roots as well, not last summer but the one before...

So, less than a year and a half later, this stump that had no branches looks like this...

This pot obviously has no Kanji written on it... but if it did... it would probably say "You Rock" as well... LOL!

Also, wish I had taken a photo before I started work, due to the fact that this tree was full of flowers...
Does still have quite a few buds, so when they pop I will see about getting a photo...

You can see one ready to open on the left hand side of the tree.

Update to Post #28

Coming up on 3 years and this tree has under gone quite a few changes to say the least!
Has been fun, and interesting for me to see just how far I personally as an Artist and how I approach doing Bonsai,
have transformed in that amount of time! Did some wiring on it and eliminated some foliage and branches to start working the final design.

I know it looks a little rough at the moment... but really digging where it is going. One of my smallest Junipers... from here on out, I will be
working on foliage with the tree, working the shari, and begin to look for a proper pot for the tree.

I think it's a shame you are often misunderstood on this forum and feel the need to be on the defensive. Your work on trees, scrolls, and stands (especially the latest ones) are all exceptional. Be proud, stay humble, and keep the creative fire alight!

Man... Mic Drop!

Amazing isn't it? Perhaps honestly... just sad.

I mean, the whole premise of having a Forum regarding Art is to try and push everyone's potential... to strive to try new things, to learn new things, in the hopes that we all get better!

You would probably be surprised to learn how many times I have had to fight with people over the dumbest stuff, trying to do just that. Pretty Silly... not to mention all the insults, that go far beyond any normal critique of work I have done. The no comments on the threads that I often take a lot of time preparing to post up...

I have decided with your post that I am not going to worry about any of that anymore... because they are wrong... and will always be wrong.

Thanks, I appreciate it! and your reply!

Right, because you weren't complicit in being defensive, nasty, petty, etc.? Thanks for the good laugh!
