Trident Broom

What are you thinking? Definitely open to your ideas.
Also, I just checked out your website. Looks cool! Great information on the site.

I was wondering whether just using the top branch, letting that shoot out a little to get a better transition to the base and cutting all pther branches off might give you a nice base for an informal upright.

Somehow the broad nebari/flare does not should broome to me ..

Thx ;)

I believe broom style should have a spreading nebari but this is certainly not traditional broom. Traditional broom is the deciduous formal upright so has a straight and vertical trunk. In recent years we have been seeing a new style emerge that some call informal broom and others have dubbed 'natural' style.

I think the trunk has character and the overall style is fine but maybe those branches are too long with little taper for the short trunk. In my experience, overlong branches are common when we try to achieve a result too quickly. More frequent pruning lower may take longer but gives a far better result in the end.

well if thats what you like you only have to look at progression threads of piglet or Walter pall trees. it sounded like you needed guidance on it. put your own stamp on it.

The piglet thread is inspiring! Thanks for the information. I really got caught up in it.
Yesterday I had some guidance from Jennifer Price during a workshop. She encouraged me to stay with the oak style design. I think what Shibui wrote was on the money "trying to achieve results too quickly ".
We decided to reduce the leaders and grow out in a larger container. It will get there eventually. I also pick up Dan Robinson's book recently and found his Oak Style trident. Very impressive!

I agree. Stay the course and you’ll have a different more naturalistic tree.
