Ouch, I'd say that is way overpriced but obviously there was a buyer so the market supported it.
I bought a collected BC from wigerts last spring, offered zero protection this last winter and it got down to 10f at least 5 times, no problems at all. Just wanted to throw that out there, not agreeing or disagreeing with you as I don't have any Louisiana BC.After 20 years in the collection, yeah, it had some problems. A lot of collected natives have issues being containerized for that long. Cold probably contributed to it, but it's recovered and then some and is going strong now. FWIW, Vaughn Banting's BC --also collected in La.--has had no problems and it's been in the collection longer. Also, there are no Fla. collected BC in the collection as far as I know...I wonder why?
Typical Sawgrass thread. Takes him 10,000 words to ramble and look even more like an idiot.
I can't think of a better person to have such a specimen tree for $550 than you. Please share a link as to where you guys are buying 35-40 year old Maples for 150 bucks! I got some cash that's absolutely burning a hole in my pocket for deals like thatPlease share your links!

I know Jason Schley always seems to have some. He is located here in Florida, north of me, and always posts trees up for auction on FB.Yet still no links lmao! Exactly what I thought! Talk a bunch of crap and can't back one crumb of it upI predict the sound of crickets on this matter once again.....

Riddle me this...why on earth would you think...by my not sharing my contacts...that you win!?! My sides are splitting...it's like you enjoy being poked.
Ooh. I must have missed the azalea. Pics, please. Saw some really nice ones at the Dallas convention the other day, for 500 range. Very impressed, but it'd be an irresponsible purchase for me right now.You try...but it falls flat. I'm so done...waisting my time with the likes of you. Go buzz in another ones ear. And...I do wish you well with your trees. Some personalities clash...it's the way of the world.
I will leave you with this:
A tree's worth is what one is willing to pay for it, my Neagari Satsuki Azalea...others my not feel it worth what I paid. But...I got a heck of a deal than what they go for from Matt Smith. Though...mine isn't near as tall. So that must be factored in. But...what one pays is what they feel the tree is worth. What another sees may not be the same value in said material. It's like that with every tree. Would I have bought the maple...no, it doesn't appeal to me. But...again, my Neagari doesn't appeal to all. You seen the value of the $550...good for you. Another may not. It's the way bonsai is seen through the eyes of each person who looks at it. You rattle to easily.
Sure...can't wait to see blooms this spring. It was held because of a repot and later my leaving the country. Wanted to understand it before doing that. But it's busting with buds on my bench...can't wait for the show.Ooh. I must have missed the azalea. Pics, please. Saw some really nice ones at the Dallas convention the other day, for 500 range. Very impressed, but it'd be an irresponsible purchase for me right now.

It's really hard to evaluate how much a tree might be worth from a few photos or videos. Photos can either hide significant flaws, or make minor flaws appear worse. Here's some footage that I took yesterday of the tree SOME think is not worth much
