I was wondering if any of you talk to your plants when you work on them. I am always talking to them, telling them they are coming along nice and look beautiful, apologize for cutting a branch or removing some leaves and tell them its for their own good.

And if there are those that do this, do you ever hear from your spouse, " You talk more to those plants than you do to me" ?

I don't so much talk to the trees ... not as much as Vic does , she sings to them too (which is very nice) ... I do however shout at them some times with a loud "GROOOOOW!!"

I probably talk to Vic sometimes more than she would like ... :P

Carefull to much GROOOOW and you'll startle the wiggle out of the branches you wired .

Too busy talking to myself, not sure I should mention that, but hey you know what Billy Joel says. You may be right......

LOL LOL you have a good point!!!!! usually I am yelling at the junipers and black pines..... especially the currently uninteresting ones in grow pots :p

I talk to my plants, and sing sometimes. The singing probably does more harm than good though. I also let them listen to music, which I swear they like.

I don't talk to mine but I do play music for them.

Their alltime favorite is Vivaldie's the Four Seasons. :)

lol funny thread. I'm new to bonsai and am definitely no expert in the art, but I do know there is a bond or a energy that runs between us and the trees. Whether it's our innate bond to nature coming out in us when we talk to them or just stare at them for what seems like too long to stare at a tree, there is something there and it feels good.

This is true on many levels, looking at a tree can bring peace of mind it can also lower stress. It always picks me up to look at plants, I have thousands of pictures of plants and trees and flowers I have taken and I just look at them at times. I will set and stare at my Bonsai when life gets to me. I do not think there is too long a time to stare at a tree, unless there are witnesses of course! :)

Generally speaking, my plants only hear 4 letter "fix it" words shouted or screamed from me, usually after I've accidentally cracked off a rather important design feature:o.

I know that -- at my age -- when I am alone and working on my trees, and I find myself speaking, I'm usually speaking to to myself (and sometimes, answering).

I do not talk to my trees ,I listen to them
