What is your weather like?

Really bad here in CT. We had trees crashing all around us last night. We are surrounded by huge maples and hemlocks and a couple branches did some damage. Not really easy to get a good nice sleep with all ththat going on. They say we have more damage than irene and they are talking about a week before all power is back to everyone

Hmmmm..... foggy this morning. 85 today and sunny during the day. They say on Friday it will be 65 and rainy. Never a dull moment! I cut back my roses hard and fertilized about a month ago - they are bursting out all over. If I time it just right I have a wall of blooms at Christmas.

Fangorn, do you have your power? I hear there are still outages in 5 states. And so sad about the lovely trees, and all the damage they are causing. Hope that the weather stays stabile for a while so the cleanup can go quickly. It's been pleasant here for harvest time, and should stay dry for another week, that will be helpful. I hear the peanut crop is a loss in the south this year. :(

We got our power back Monday at 6:00 pm.
We live on the road that goes to the old reservoir. Even though we don’t use it for town water, they still have a pump and other controls there, so we got it back sooner than most. There are still a lot of dark streets around us and surrounding towns.
My wife’s parents and my mom live in the next town over and they (and most the town) are still without power. My wife’s parents had a huge oak fall on their house and car, and I was told yesterday that the crane needed to get it off will be in town tomorrow.
The insurance company has told them that they are allowed up to $500.00 for cleanup, so I think that they are a little screwed in that department.
It was funny on Monday when we got the power back. My daughters and I had just carved our usual 10 or so pumpkins, and were lighting them along with candles around the house. My older daughter, who never met a holiday she didn’t like, was really getting into it. All of a sudden the lights go on, and she starts yelling to turn them off!!
I did, but I made sure that I also cranked the furnace up

It's supposed to hit 60 today which will be nice. I want this snow gone

Wow that sounds pretty bad. Hope all your in-laws weren't injured. That's not much to clean up a tree at all, we had a couple that went down in an ice storm a couple years ago, and it cost a bunch. We have the same reaction sometimes around here when the power comes back, and we've just gotten used to the fireplace... Glad to know you were still able to enjoy the holiday, and good to know that your temps are warming.

Judy, that storm did some real damage up here. I work for a small municipal utility and we got squashed, round the clock Sat. and Sunday when it hit, then 7 am - 12 am shifts, sounds like maybe 6 hrs of sleep but more like 3 1/2 for 7 days. I was out that Sat. night and as Fanghorn put it with trees and limbs going crack POP CRASH it was scary, almost parked my car where a large limb would have crushed it, good instinct on that one. The hard part was dealing with the people, most were VERY good and understanding, some just couldn't understand why I couldn't get thier house in power now, rather than 300 on the next street, too many were very me oriented.
If I had to try to get them to understand, the easiest way was to tell them my house is dark and cold too. If they told me it was only 52 in thier house I sometimes said it's 18 out here where we have to work. I'm hoping this was a hundred year storm, three more weeks and the damage wouln't have happened, with no leaves on the trees.
