Will Hawthorne Air-layer?

Would like to get an air-layer from this x media pauls scarlet hawthorne.
They root absolutely zero for cuttings.
Anybody try this?

I would think it would be pretty tough since cuttings won’t take.
 
I have one I started this year. It is a big one too, probably 4-5 inches across so we will see. Not expecting much. Like you I have not been able to strike a cutting of hawthorns. You can do root cuttings easily though so if you trim off any root with even a touch of hardwood it will likely sprout.
