Hi all,

Working on my Hawthorn today and noticed this big burl type form on one of the branches. It’s about 6 years old. Any idea what it is? Should it be removed? Thanks!

Could be dat rust.

I'd cut it off.

Sorce

yep--Cedar Apple Rust. Comes from neighboring Eastern Juniper trees. People use these to screen out /privacy of their yards. Cut it off!! and start next spring with fungicides for prevention.
